Wednesday Flash Reviews – 10-5-10 – Just buy SHIELD, already!

Before we get to the books this week, there’s a couple graphic novels you need to be aware of!

If you haven’t read Starman yet, you should.  It was the best superhero comic of the 90’s, and these omnibus editions collect stories that were printed in quite a few different places throughout the DC line.  This series is a must read for any serious comic fan, and these omnibus editions are great.

Also there’s new work by Daryn Cooke this week!

The Hunter was a very good read, I expect this one to be just as good.  Be sure to give The Outfit a second look when you’re at your local store!

As for this week’s books, there aren’t a lot of them, but there are some fantastic reads this week.

S.H.I.E.L.D. #4 – Excellent.  This is the best mainstream book being published by either company, and it isn’t even close.  This issue delivers yet again…in fact, I’m going to just repeat from the intro page here:

Leonid has been instructed in the hidden histroy of the world by none other than the immortal Sir Isaac Newton.  However Newton has been hiding a secret history all his own: his murder of Galileo, his enslavement of Nostradamus and his obsessive quest to discover the mystical Five-Fold Understanding.  But now Leonid has a new teacher, Leonardo Da Vinci, who has come not only for Leonid, but to challenge Newton’s reign over Shield.

If you read that and aren’t jazzed or excited by such a summary…there’s nothing I can do for you.  This books is everything the market says it wants right now, it should be the best selling book in the market, period.  And I didn’t even mention Dustin Weaver’s absolutely gorgeous art.

Ultimate Thor #1 – Good.  This is a good read, it just didn’t blow me away.

Wolverine #2 – Solid.  This storyline is not bad so far.

Batman Hidden Treasures One Shot – Very Good.  Honestly, I simply didn’t have time to read this whole book, but I loved what I did see.  Gorgeous Wrightson art, and the story had me very interested.  Well worth the price of admission, I think.

Brightest Day #11 – Good.  Yeah, this series is getting much more interesting.  Definitely delivering.

Uncanny X-Force #1 – Good.  A good opening chapter, though if you don’t know who Fantomex is, this might be a tad confusing.  Still, fans will be happy, and if you’re curious, it is worth a look.

DeadpoolMax #1 – Very Good.  But I am really biased.  This is one of my favorite writers and one of my favorite creators on a character I typically enjoy.  This is not your typical Deadpool book, and I got a kick out of it.

Chaos War #1 – Solid.  If Herc and Thor in god-smashing action is your thing, then you’ll enjoy this book.  Promise.

What did YOU enjoy this week?
