Notes from June 1st – Fighting Edition!

Everyone have a good holiday weekend?  Yep, me too.  Just a reminder, new comics this week are Thursday instead of Wednesday!  Reviews will be pushed back a day as a result.

The Beat has linked to the newest Scott Pilgrim trailer, along with some insight as to whether or not this movie can actually be successful in a movie market that doesn’t seem to really want new and inventive ideas.  Considering the relative weakness of this summer’s movie season so far, though, maybe the audience is actually tired of the same old, same old.

There’s been some concern and comments floating around the last couple weeks about comic book pricing, namely the $3.99 price point.  I’ve got some thoughts in the works for later this week on this topic.  It just isn’t as simple as anyone wants to make it out to be.

A good read over at comiks debris about 10 Things That Superhero Comics Do Better Than Any Other Genre in Any Other Storytelling Art Form.

Deadline has word of Guillermo del Toro leaving the director’s chair of The Hobbit movies apparently due to scheduling conflicts.  Lots of good insight on potential candidates to take the job in the link.
